The Johor state government announced plans to construct a mechanism structure through collaboration with relevant companies aimed at supporting and strengthening electric vehicle (EV) usage in the future.
According to the state’s Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the new initiative was in line with the Johor State Government’s plan to encourage more EVs in the state.
He further added that the move was also in tandem with neighboring Singapore’s plan to cease registration of new petrol-powered vehicles by 2030.
“It is inevitable, which means that Johor must have the plan to establish a collaboration with local authorities. I will discuss this matter with state secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani [for] a mechanism that is more organized and strategic, involving industries that have a power source to support our strategy [on EVs] in years to come,” he stated.
Said approach also includes a discussion between the Johor Menteri Besar and the Singapore Transport Minister S. Iswaran regarding the city-state’s adoption of electric vehicles held earlier in February this year. Part of the discussion entails a proposal for the introduction of a ferry service between the Puteri Harbour Terminal, Johor and Tuas, Singapore.
Back in June 2022, a reputable source shared online regarding the Pasir Gudang City Council’s (MBPG) action in replacing five units of its official vehicles with EVs in which the city council were presented several cars, including a Hyundai Ioniq 5 and a Tesla Model 3 last year in June.
Thus, it helps with the council’s long-term plan to make Johor district a contemporary and environmentally friendly place.
