PEARL 2.0 App Integrates ChargeSini to Accelerate Penang’s EV Drive
PEARL 2.0 App Integrates ChargeSini to Accelerate Penang’s EV Drive
Penang has taken a big step toward smarter, greener mobility with the launch of the upgraded PEARL 2.0 app, created by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP). Beyond its refreshed interface and smoother navigation, this new version now includes ChargeSini EV charger integration—making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to locate and pay for EV charging spots across the state.

This update is a key move in supporting both national and state goals around sustainable transport. Malaysia has set an ambitious target of 10,000 EV charging bays (EVCBs) by 2025, with Penang committed to contributing 600 bays, half of which fall under MBPP’s oversight. By embedding ChargeSini’s services directly into the app, MBPP is ensuring that EV charging becomes a seamless part of everyday life.

As of early 2025, Penang had already rolled out 52 chargers at 26 locations—including 50 fast DC chargers (60 kW) and 2 AC chargers (22 kW). By April, 48 of these were active, with four awaiting energisation via TNB—highlighting progress, though not without electricity infrastructure delays. Charging costs are competitively priced at RM1.09 per kWh for AC and RM1.39 per kWh for DC fast charging, with all payments handled conveniently through the PEARL app.

But PEARL 2.0 isn’t just about EV charging. It remains a powerful one-stop platform for MBPP services—everything from parking to public amenities and lifestyle features—all designed to improve daily city living in line with Penang’s Penang2030 vision for a smart, green, and inclusive state.

With ChargeSini now integrated into PEARL 2.0, Penang residents and visitors can expect smoother EV journeys and improved access to charging infrastructure. This step reflects a broader commitment to e-mobility—and positions Penang as a leader in Malaysia’s transition toward sustainable urban transport.
